“Was very glad to get even a few words from you after so long a silence. Your card came on my birthday. Now sir you need not stick up your nose at that for I do have birthdays and will keep on having them the rest of my life. I rec’d twenty cards last week. While I am not as well as I would like to be I am better than I was for a long time last year. I am busy sewing for Mrs. Sararas and Melinda Lite and myself. When I get tired of sewing I go up to Lite’s and tend baby awhile. They have a fine little girl up there and her Daddy thinks she is superfine. Was very glad to hear that you are well and happy. Pa has not been very well. C.M.V. [Written in margins:] I have been wondering what your work was like this year, what are you taking this year? Please write again and don’t wait until next Xmas.”
